Q: In what order should I turn on/off my monitoring equipment?
Last December Holger Obst from German music production website ReleaseTime.de put our DynaMaxx to the test. We decided to post here a couple of abstracts from the very comprehensive review of our two-channel hardware compressor, which — as it is always the case by ReleaseTime.de — includes plenty of sound samples.
“The SPL DynaMaxx Model 9735 is exceptionally built, rugged enough even for live applications and its audio quality is outstanding. [...] Thanks to the Double VCA Drive, not even when pushed to the limits does it distort. Thus, it sounds very clean and with a superb definition — top analog quality, which is still quite far from what digital compressors can provide.”
German Alternative/Big Beat/Rock Band Stereostoned released their new album “Stay Sexy“ last January 27, 2012 on the Recent Records label. Watch the video to get a taste of their powerful rock energy:
For the recording of the album Stereostoned used several SPL products, including our indispensable and classic Transient Designer and Vitalizer®, both in hardware and software versions, as well as our GoldMike MK2 microphone preamp.

Q: Why does my monitor controller crackle?
Ten weeks ago we started to post a new FAQ from our database in our blog every week… Here is the newest one!
Q: Why is there noise coming from my monitor controller?
From today onwards we will be working together with Austrian company Unterlass to exhibit our products. Your first opportunity to see live our products displayed in the exceptionally manufactured studio desks and racks from Arno Unterlass will be at the Musikmesse 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The first review of an SPL product published this year was made by Holger Obst from German music production website ReleaseTime.de, who decided to test our GainStation 1. He not only writes about the basics like control elements and audio quality, but also dwells on the external characteristics, finish and connections of the unit. Do you want to know how our one-channel microphone and instrument preaamp performed?
Holger Obst from ReleaseTime.de has tested quite some SPL products in the past and is well-known for always delivering very detailed reviews. This time he decided to dig into the depths of our Track One… Here are some of his thoughts:
“The Track One —the smallest of SPL’s three channel strips— makes a good impression and also benefits from the same technology as its more expensive counterparts. It provides an exceptional sound quality, sounds strikingly musical and is remarkably well-built, which makes it perfectly apt for many years of hard work live.”

Professional Audio Magazin, one of the leading audio magazines in Germany, published a very comprehensive test on our Neos summing and monitoring console in its November issue.
