Here is the second review of 2011 that hadn’t made it to our blog yet. ReleaseTime.de decided to put our two-channel tube processor to the test last August. Editor Holger Obst calls the Charisma 2 a “real analog sound refiner,” based on a very comprehensive review of the unit with multiple sound samples. Among his statements are the following:
“The SPL Charisma 2 Model 9733 is very flexible and delivers a very convincing tube and tape saturation effect. It opens up the stereo panorama and makes everything sound warmer, full of harmonics and powerful.”
“Personally, I like the Charisma effect especially on acoustic and electronic drums.. Acoustic drums sound more lively, powerful and spatial, while e-drums get fatter and thundering with a bit of Drive.”
“Moreover, the Charisma excels at bringing clean guitars and synthesizers upfront — even pop brass sections gain more presence. In Soft Mode you can shape vocals and make feeble basses sound rounder and imperious.”
“The fact that the Charisma makes no noise at all is also worth mentioning. Plus, it adds a touch of vintage flair to everything and it couldn’t be easier to use.”
“The price-performance ratio is good.”
