For the recording of the album Stereostoned used several SPL products, including our indispensable and classic Transient Designer and Vitalizer®, both in hardware and software versions, as well as our GoldMike MK2 microphone preamp.
We are currently looking for someone to join our staff in Niederkrüchten (Germany) with the following profile: Electro-acoustic Technician.
As part of our R&D team you will be involved in the manufacturing of high-quality analog equipment. At the same time, you will undertake maintenance work in the service area in order to get to learn all our products. You will be greeted in a friendly work atmosphere with flat hierarchy. Your post requires personal responsibility, as well as motivation to apply your knowledge and experience into improving products and processes. Guillemots FOH engineer, Jonny “Turbo” Lucas, had a problem many engineers who mix double bass live face: getting a warm, full sound without feedback was becoming a nightmare.
Who do you think Jonny turned to to solve the problem? You got that right! He actually asked if we could deliver a modified version of the SPL GoldMike MK2. And we did.
“We use double bass on stage which is inherently hard anyway. We had found some great pick ups from a company in Canada (magnetic Biesle System) and a Barcus Berry piezo. “I wouldn’t start a mix unless I had at least 4 channels of the Transient Designer available. Especially effective on drums and percussion, it is an incredibly useful tool when it comes to dynamic processing, both in the studio and live. Great in adding that extra bit of ‚front’ or attack to transients, often necessary to withstand brickwall type limiting. What’s really exciting about this unit is what it can do to the release of your signal.”
